The P1020RDB-PA Evaluation and Demonstration Board is a flexible and feature-rich platform for developing high-performance applications using the latest Freescale Power Architecture® processor technology. Developers can use the P1020RDB-PA for developing and evaluating advanced system level functions, such as dynamic bus protocols, very large instruction word architectures, and secure data processing, as well as performing proof-of-concepts. The demonstration board includes multiple on-board peripherals and interfaces, a comprehensive suite of software development tools, debug and evaluation tools, and a working controller board.
The application field of the P1020RDB-PA is very wide, as it can be used to develop a variety of systems, such as those requiring high-performance, embedded control solutions, embedded data-processing solutions, telecom/networking solutions, industrial control solutions, interactive multimedia applications, and real-time event handling. Furthermore, the controller board can be used for control and monitoring applications that involve human-machine interaction.
The P1020RDB-PA operates on the principles of a central processing unit (CPU) that receives instructions from a bus master, executes the instructions, and generates the appropriate control signals to initiate operations or send data to the different peripheral blocks in the board. This architecture allows the board to operate independently and make decisions in real-time. The CPU controls the board’s peripherals, such as on-chip memory, and the high-speed interfaces to an off-chip bus, allowing data and control signals to be exchanged between the board and other devices.
The CPU also has access to external storage in the form of a CompactFlash card, a Serial Flash drive, or an external USB device. This permits large amount of data to be stored and manipulated by the CPU, and enables the board to run complex applications that require considerable storage or computation power.
The board’s on-chip peripherals and interfaces comprise a vast array of hardware, designed to permit the board to interact with other devices and with its own internal devices and components. These include a range of high-speed buses such as Ethernet, USB, PCI Express, and Serial ATA, as well as slower but still important interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and UART. Additionally, the board features UARTs, GPIO, an SD/MMC controller, and a huge range of memory components such as an SRAM, Flash, and SDRAM.
The P1020RDB-PA Evaluation and Demonstration Board works in tandem with a suite of software tools, enabling developers to create, debug, test and evaluate high-performance applications.
