TVS Thyristor or Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) is a semiconductor device with two or more terminals used for protection against uncontrolled high voltage surges in electrical and electronic circuits. It is also referred to as a surge suppressor or a surge protector. TVS thyristors are also used in automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications, to provide protection against destructive currents from lightning strikes and other power sources.
The P1402ACL is a new-generation three-terminal TVS that offers enhanced surge protection and superior reliability. It provides superior protection against short-duration overvoltage surges while providing an extremely low on-state voltage drop even under high current conditions. The P1402ACL is an integrated three-terminal TVS which consists of two thyristors (SCR1 and SCR2) connected in a series configuration. A parallel-connected diode is included to reduce the total voltage drop across the thyristors during normal operation. The two thyristors are controlled by an internal circuit (the Control Circuit) which monitors the voltage across SCR1 and, if the voltage is greater than the threshold voltage (VGT), causes the thyristors to turn off. The Control Circuit also controls when the thyristors turn on and provides a fast response time to abnormal voltage conditions.
The P1402ACL can be used in applications such as power and telecoms circuits, automotive applications, lightning strike protection, and other systems where voltage surges are likely to occur. It is suitable for high-current applications where fast switching and low threshold voltage are required. The device features low capacitance and low on-state voltage drop, which make it ideal for applications that require fast switching and low power dissipation. In addition, its low on-state voltage drop also helps conserve energy.
