P1500ZB Application Field and Working Principle

The P1500ZB is a 600V, zero voltage turn-on thyristor designed for applications where high current is a factor. It is a three-pin device, consisting of an Anode contact, a Cathode contact, and a Gate contact. It has a typical forward voltage drop of 1.7V and a reverse breakdown voltage of 600V. Its low reverse turn-on voltage makes it suitable to use as a switch in high-current applications, and in conjunction with other thyristors, it can also be used as a protection diode for over-current applications.

In terms of its working principle, the P1500ZB operates by storing electric charge in the depletion region between the Anode and Cathode contacts. When the Gate voltage is increased, a current begins to flow from the Cathode contact to the Anode contact. The impedance of the junction limits the current flow, creating a voltage drop across the contacts. This voltage drop is the forward firing voltage of the device. Once the Gate voltage is increased to the firing voltage, the device is turned on and current flows through it.

The P1500ZB can be used in a wide range of applications, such as in power supplies, motor control circuits, protection circuits and in LEDs lighting. It can also be used in DC-DC converters, inverters, UPSs and other motor and lighting controls.
