TVS - Thyristors
P1556UCRP is a high surge protected thyristor-based transient voltage suppressor (TVS) suitable for surge protection applications. The device provides low trip level to detect the overvoltage, and high holding current to avoid nuisance trips. It is intended for protecting circuits against surges induced by transients on the AC power line or spikes generated by inductive load switching.
Application Field
P1556UCRP is designed to protect electronic devices from high-voltage surges and surges caused by inductive switching of inductively-loaded devices. It is ideal for use in applications such as personal computers, instrumentation, and telecommunications equipment, as well as in industrial controls, switching power supplies, motor drives, and lighting ballasts.
Working Principle
The P1556UCRP works by using an SCR or thyristor. A thyristor is a solid-state electronic switch with three pins, each of which acts as a separate electrical terminal. When an overvoltage condition occurs, the SCR device turns on to divert current away from the sensitive circuitry. The device then holds the diverted current until the voltage returns to the nominal level, eventually turning the SCR off.
The P1556UCRP is able to provide protection against high-energy transients from both the AC mains power line and inductive switching of inductively-loaded devices. The device provides a low trip level to detect the overvoltage, and a high holding current to avoid nuisance trips. The small current threshold of the device makes it suitable for applications that require high-level circuit protection without affecting the normal operation of the device.
