When a current raises the gate voltage above the anode threshold voltage, it allows a controlled current to flow. The P1602AALRP is a three-terminal bidirectional thyristor device designed to provide reliable surge protection for various types of loads.

This current is supplied to the gate terminal to bring it to the anode threshold voltage. Once the gate voltage is greater than the anode threshold voltage, the gate-anode current begins to flow freely. This current causes the voltage at the anode to instantly drop to the clamping voltage level of 14.4V, instantly limiting the power supplied to the load.
The P1602AALRP provides reliable surge protection in a variety of applications ranging from consumer electronics to automotive applications. Its fast response time ensures that the device will respond to an increase in voltage before the load can be damaged.
