Toggle Switches are designed to control the flow of electricity by either opening or closing an electric circuit. The P2012BP/UC application field is the ability to switch on and off current from a circuit either manually or automatically. Working principles vary depending on the switch design, but the majority of toggle switches use a mechanism to open and close by using a metal contact arm mounted to a moving base.
Single pole, double throw (SPDT) toggle switches are designed for controlling one circuit, connecting one of two circuits to the power source. In this case, the toggle switch has three input terminals. Two of the terminals of the toggle switch are connected to the controlling circuit, and the other is connected to the power source. When the toggle switch is in the closed position, one of the two terminals of the controlling circuit is connected to the power source, and when the toggle switch is in the open position, the other terminal of the controlling circuit is connected to the power source. By using a Single Pole, Double Throw toggle switch, either one or the other of the controlling circuits can be connected to the power source.
Double Pole, Double Throw (DPDT) toggle switches are designed for controlling two circuits, connecting two different circuits to two different power sources with one switch. In this case, the toggle switch has six input and output terminals. Four of the terminals are connected to two controlling circuits, while the remaining two are connected to two different power sources. When the toggle switch is placed in the closed position, one of the two controlling circuits are switched on. When the toggle switch is moved to the open position, the other controlling circuit is switched on. This allows both of the controlling circuits to be separately connected to two different power sources.
Some toggle switches are designed with an automatic mechanism that allows for the switch to be opened or closed without any manual intervention. This is useful for applications where electricity must be regulated without manual control, such as computers and security systems. The automatic mechanism typically consists of a mechanical contact arm which is internally spring-loaded and connected to a lever. When the lever is pushed, the contact arm is forced to make connection with another contact point, thus allowing for the circuit to be either opened or closed. Releasing the lever returns the contact arm to its original position, and the circuit is then returned to its previous state.
Toggle switches are extensively used in a wide array of applications, ranging from consumer electronics and home appliances to industrial control systems. The P2012BP/UC application field provides a reliable, cost-effective and user-friendly solution for switching on and off circuits. It is available in both single and double pole double throw configurations, allowing for either one or two circuits to be switched on and off with just one switch.
