P2703AA Application Field and Working Principle
Thyristors, a type of semiconductor components, are widely used in power electronics. Among them, the Peltoroare proprietary thyristors developed by Infineon Technologies, models P2703AA, are designed as industrial medium frequency switching equipments.
Application
Due to their trustworthiness and high efficiency, P2703AA thyristors are generally used in electric drives, welding and heating technology, rectifiers, battery charging systems, AC operation switches, etc. Apart from its general use as an electric switch, its unique electrical characteristics also makes it suitable for advanced power control systems, motor control, such as inverter control and power factor correction.
Working Principle
The P2703AA thyristor consists of three parts: anode, cathode and gate. During normal operation, both the anode and the cathode are tied to a positive voltage level. The gate is connected to a high-level voltage signal, which controls the switching process. When a positive gate signal is given, the thyristor will turn on and functions as a short circuit. When followed by a negative gate signal, the thyristor will turn off again and restore to the high resistance state. The minimum turn-on voltage of these thyristors is rated at 1.7V, which makes devices using them more efficient and reliable.
