Thyristors(TVS) are solid state electrical switches with extraordinary power switching capabilities. The Thyristor, along with its related triac, diac and thyristor surge device variants, are all devices from the family of power electronic switches. The devices can be added to electrical circuits to provide improved protection and control options for power supplies, circuits and related power systems. The P2703UALRP is a relatively new type of TVS devices gaining in popularity due to its wide range of applications and reliable, durable performance.

The P2703UALRP can operate either in positive-to-ground (pol) or negative-to-ground (nog) configurations. Either configuration can be applied when connecting the device directly to a circuit. The device also features TVS technology integrated with reverse polarity protection (RPP) as well as protection against voltage and current spikes caused by electrostatic discharge events (ESD). In addition, the P2703UALRP offers surge protection on both sides of the circuit with the maximum protection at 600V P-P.

The working principle of the Thyristor-based P2703UALRP consists of incorporating one or more power switching elements called thyristors (or thyristified transistors) in a circuit. When the device is triggered by a control signal, the thyristors “fire” and connect the power source to the output terminals, switching the circuit on. When the thyristors are deactivated, the circuit power is again disconnected, and the circuit is then off. The P2703UALRP is designed to be particularly damage resistant when used in high voltage and current applications.

The P2703UALRP is mainly used in power engineering applications, such as motor control, voltage and current regulation, and power distribution. The device’s greatest benefits are seen in applications that require high power switching at medium and high frequencies and where size and weight are of primary importance.
