Thyristors are a kind of four-layer semiconductor devices, they are able to control electrical current and voltage. P2706UBTP is a thyristor device specifically designed for the protection of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) from high transient overvoltages. The application field of P2706UBTP mainly deals with high-altitude electronic equipment design and fault protection circuit design to protect various hardware from large transient overvoltages. The working principle of P2706UBTP is based on a passive turn-off protection mechanism, which uses two thyristors in series to form an anti-parallel relationship. When a large transient overvoltage occurs, it causes the first thyristor to turn off, resulting in the voltage between cathode and anode of the second thyristor reducing to a safe level. In this way, the second thyristor stays non-conductive and the overvoltage is absorbed and stored in snubber circuits or other circuits for safe dissipation. In order to effectively protect UAVs from large transient overvoltages, the peak off-state voltage rating of the device must match the application requirements. Basing on the peak off-state voltage and other performance parameters, P2706UBTP can satisfy UAV software designs up to 450V.
To increase the system reliability, P2706UBTP is designed with a series of protection features for both the thyristor and UAV hardware, including two stages of trigger voltage for overvoltage protection, fast turn-off time, low clamping voltage, short circuit protection, transient protection, and over temperature protection. The two-stage trigger voltage is also set to provide an adjustable overvoltage threshold. This guarantee the safety of UAV hardware while protecting the device from burning. The fast turn-off time of the device can help eliminate high-level discharge current without degrading the system performance. In addition, the low clamping voltage of the P2706UBTP will prevent overvoltage transients caused by lightning and other heavy surge to cause any breakdown. Short circuit protection will further enhance the protection level and provide high stability. Other than that, its transient protection and over temperature protection can help to securely and accurately protect the device from improper operation. The maximum operating temperature for P2706UBTP is +150°C, making it one of the highest temperature rated thyristors available.
P2706UBTP can enable a variety of applications in high-altitude UAVs, aviation engineering, automotive electronics, and embedded system designs. The device’s suitable for various working conditions, features intriquate protection, and its fast turn-off time provide an excellent over-voltage protection solution for UAVs.
