This type of thyristor is available in a single-location plastic tape form, and features maximum surge current of 12,000A, heavy load ratings, low on-state resistance, and fast switching time. The P3500Q12ALRP is equipped with an isolated case for easier installation and is available in a long lifetime package.The main application of the P3500Q12ALRP is in the field of power electronics. This thyristor can be used in a variety of AC and DC power switching applications such as motor controls, battery charging, welding systems, AC line switching, and high current rectifiers. It can also be used as a switching device in electronic circuits and is suitable for power converters, inverters, choppers, and DC motor controls. The P3500Q12ALRP is designed to be used in a wide range of medium and high power applications ranging from 40 to 4000 volts and from 2 to 1200 amps.The working principle behind the P3500Q12ALRP is that of the basic thyristor, with the device having an operational mode of four states – forward blocking, reverse blocking, forward conducting, and reverse conducting. When a voltage is applied between the anode and cathode gate terminals, the gate current causes a charge control layer to be formed. As the voltage increases, the charge control layer increases and the thyristor turns on, allowing current to flow. The thyristor turns off again when the current drops below the gate turn-off current, and the thyristor is returned to the forward blocking state.The P3500Q12ALRP is designed with a number of features that increase its reliability and make it suitable for use in all sorts of power electronic applications. It is designed to self-commutate up to 12,000 amperes, to reduce the power dissipation on the gate, and has built-in protection for over-voltage and over-current conditions.
