The device is also ESD protected up to 25kV IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 and 15kV IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 (contact discharge). However, the P4KE82A-G is not suitable for high-frequency AC power line applications due to its low capacitance (Cd) and high avalanche-clamping voltage (Vc).

The working principle of the P4KE82A-G is based on its integrated diode array. This diode array is a combination of Zener and avalanche junction diodes connected in parallel. The diodes are connected in a series circuit and when a voltage spike occurs, the junctions of the diodes are forward biased which results in the voltage being divided and limited.
