P6KE16A is a type of unidirectional Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode, which is widely applied in a variety of circuits, including communication lines, power supplies, automotive entertainment systems, servers, and consumer electronics.
P6KE16A has a 6.8V clamping voltage and low leakage current of 2.5µA (maximum) at I/O. It is a semi-conductive device with high surge capability, made to protect components from a single line overvoltage events. P6KE16A is composed of two discrete chips with a glass passivated junction. It is a planar-designed diode, which allows for outstanding characteristics and superior performance.
In terms of applications, P6KE16A can be used for protecting communication lines, automotive audio systems, and other application areas where voltage protection is necessary. The device is designed to dissipate negative or positive transients up to 16A, as well as to direct the surge energy through a series of two diodes, clamped at a certain voltage. This ensures protection of the circuitry against overvoltage, ESD, and other forms of externally generated disturbances.
The working principle of P6KE16A lies in applying high-energy surge current to the device, which triggers the diode and forces the semiconductor\'s junction to conduct yet limited current. This happens whenever the voltage across the two junctions of the diode reaches certain levels. The TVS diode is designed to protect against overvoltage and, provided ideal conditions, operates in many microseconds and clamps the voltage between two junctions.
P6KE16A TVS diode offers excellent low-capacitance ESD protection with low leakage current, fast response time, and low capacitance. Moreover, it reduces noise caused by high-frequency signals. The device provides an effective EMI shielding solution, providing reliable protection to sensitive electronic components from ESD. The device also offers reverse voltage protection and is suitable for applications requiring high reliability and low leakage current.
