The device provides transient voltage suppression of overvoltage pulse initiators ranging from milliamps (mA) to thousands of amps (A). It can be used for automotive applications, for protection against power surges in the battery system; in industrial applications for protection against transient overvoltage incidents during power loss or brownouts; and in general electrical and electronic systems to protect components and circuits from transient overvoltage.Working Principle
The P6SMB6.8AT3 TVS diode works by diverting excess current away from sensitive electronics when an overvoltage or bulk power line surge occurs. In operation, the drain lead of the diode is used as the anode and the source lead is used as the cathode. When a transient surge is present, the reverse-biased diode provides a low-resistance path for the current to flow, thus allowing the excess energy to be dissipated. The device can also be used in voltage clamping circuits, where it can limit the voltage above a predetermined threshold.Conclusion
