P9221-R-EVK is a fully certified wireless power receiver based on the WPC-1.2 specification. It supports the full flyback wireless power transfer as well as foreign object detection (FOD). It is a perfect opportunity for engineers to explore the fundamental principles of wireless power transfer, create prototypes, and support projects.

The P9221-R-EVK covers a broad application field and includes products related to several application areas as mobile phones, consumer electronics, automotive, industrial, healthcare, and military electronics. For example, in industrial application areas, the product supports a broad range of wireless power products, such as forklift battery chargers, in-floor charging stations, desk and wall-mounted chargers. Also, it is suitable for products needing high power in large contactless areas, and robotic applications.

In order to support a variety of application fields, the P9221-R-EVK features several components. A tiny in-line bus bridge system is integrated to provide a main bridge interface. A Nuvoton I/O-expansion module is included to extend the device\'s functionality. A high-side current sense connector is included to provide current measurements. Furthermore, a 32-bit micro controller is provided to allow debugging and simulating wireless power transfer.

The P9221-R-EVK provides both an integrated MCU and a separate MCU option. With the integrated MCU, the system is able to monitor and interpret commands from the sender side. This also allows the user to control the internal state machine for implementing different power transfer schemes.

Additionally, the system supports multiple communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART. All of them can be used for debug over wire, emulation, and power-transmitting functions. Furthermore, the system is capable of receiving wireless power from both the primary and secondary sides. Additionally, a separate module is provided to the separate MCU option which can carries out additional wireless charging functions.

When it comes to the working principles, the key component of P9221-R-EVK is the primary resonator. This resonator, together with the wide range of other components, serves as a wireless power receiver. It works by creating a magnetic field between the primary and secondary coils ‒ two coils connected by a capacitor. To recharge the device, the primary side of the system will generate an alternating current (AC) that is required to form the magnetic field and transfer power. During the charging process, all the components generate an electric current which is transmitted to the secondary side. This current is flowing through a rectifier, and its voltage is converted into a DC voltage. After that, this current is stored in the device\'s battery, enabling it to be recharged.

To sum up, the P9221-R-EVK serves as an evaluation and demonstration board and kit for a range of application fields, including mobile phones, consumer electronics, automotive, industrial, healthcare, and military electronics. All the components provided by the system, together with its components such as the primary resonator, support the wireless power transfer across different applications. Additionally, the integrated and separate MCU provide capabilities to access the transferred power in different ways. Finally, the audio power transfer is carried out through alternating magnetic fields created by the primary and secondary coils.
