PA2746NL is a type of common mode choke belonging to the class of passive electronic components which is used to filter out high-frequency signals while allowing low-frequency signals to pass through. Common mode chokes are commonly used in the power, data, and signal transmission lines where it is necessary to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI).PA2746NL is designated as a pulse width modulation (PWM) common mode choke, which means it is optimized for cutting high-frequency noise created by switching power supplies. While typical common mode chokes are designed for 50/60 Hz line noise elimination, PWM common mode chokes such as PA2746NL are optimized for high frequency switching noise.The PA2746NL contains two windings which are connected in parallel to each other. The two windings can act as a single inductance device, in a Pi-filter configuration, or individually. This makes the PA2746NL a versatile component for various applications.The inductance rating of PA2746NL is 27 mH with a winding resistance of 29 ohms. The DC working current is 40 mA and the DC breakdown voltage is 500 V. The leakage inductance is < 4.5 uH and the stray capacitance is < 35 pF. In addition, the dielectric strength is 2.2 KV rms.The PA2746NL is used in a variety of applications such as AC-DC power converters, DC-DC converters, networks, electronic ballasts, power supplies, audio systems, and computers. It is also used in the automotive industry as noise isolation devices. The PA2746NL works by reducing the amount of conducted common mode noise, from high-frequency switching noise to lower-frequency noise. It is able to achieve this by operating like a filter, which blocks the noise-causing signals while allowing the desired signals to pass through. This ensures that signals are free from interference and remain reliable.The working principle of the PA2746NL is based on the principle of mutual inductance. Mutual inductance is an AC phenomenon in which a coil that is connected in parallel to another coil acts as a transformer in which both coils will induce a magnetomotive force when the current in one coil changes. This means that in the PA2746NL, the two coils are not only coupled but also oppose each other which reduces the spread of common mode signal (noise) while at the same time, passes the desired low-frequency signals.Overall, the PA2746NL is a high-performance PWM common mode choke which is well suited for applications where noise isolation and attenuation are required. It is designed to work both in single and multipair configurations, offering maximum flexibility for a variety of applications. Its inductive rating is suitable for most power applications, the leakage inductance and stray capacitance levels are low enough to ensure good performance, and its dielectric strength is high enough to help provide reliable operation in automotive and industrial applications.
