The PD432006 is a compact reversing thyristor module with a per-leg maximum blocking voltage of 625V. It is designed to provide an easy-to-implement solution to AC motor speed control applications by allowing motor reversing using a single module. It consists of two Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs) configured in a reverse parallel connection, able to work up to a designed AC load of up to 25A.

This thyristor module is packaged into a standard UL94VO flame retardant plastic case and is suitable for operation temperatures ranging from -40°C to 125°C.

It is designed to provide a solution in a variety of motor control applications requiring a simple, reversible switching of motor winding currents. Typical applications include HVAC motor control, electric valves and actuators, solenoid control, and many other applications that require a reversible switching.

Working Principle

The PD432006 works by controlling the current in the AC motor windings. It is composed of two SCRs arranged in a reverse parallel configuration to provide unidirectional control. When the controlling voltage (gate voltage) is applied between the gate and cathode of one of the SCRs, the SCR will be triggered on, thus allowing current to flow in the forward direction. To reverse the direction of the current, the gate voltage must be switched to the opposite SCR, thus turning on the opposite SCR and reversing the direction of the current.

It also provides overvoltage protection which helps to protect the SCRs against overvoltage conditions that may be caused by a sudden increase in the load current. This overvoltage protection is provided by a built-in diac, which is connected in parallel to each SCR. When the voltage across the SCR exceeds a pre-determined level, the diac will be triggered and will activate the SCR, thus limiting the voltage across the SCR.

The PD432006 also features short protection to protect the SCRs against short-circuit currents. In this mode, the SCRs are triggered on and off in an oscillating manner, thus limiting the short-circuit current to a certain level. This feature helps to prevent the SCRs from being damaged due to excessive current.

Finally, the PD432006 also features an oversaturation detection feature, which helps to detect an over-saturation condition, and then shuts off the SCR to prevent damage to the SCR. This feature is useful for protecting the SCRs from being damaged in case of an overload situation.
