It is constructed from two silicon-based PN junction and an alternating layer of cadmium sulfide and cadmium selenide. The PESD2IVN-UX offers a wide breakdown range, from 10V to 5VS, with low capacitance and low leakage current. The device also has a high speed response time to protect against fast-changing transients. The primary application of the PESD2IVN-UX is in consumer and computer electronics to provide surge protection. The high voltage protection provided by its PN junction prevents short circuits from high voltage transients and ESD shocks. When this occurs, the PN junction of the diode breaks down, thus creating a low impedance path that limits the potential current flow.
