PTC resettable fuses provide a solution to protect circuits from short circuits and overloads. The PFRA.250.2 series is a line of fast acting-fuses with a wide range of ratings and features ideal for a variety of applications. The fixed blade terminal leads and the high current-carrying capacity make the PFRA.250.2 an especially suitable choice for automotive circuit protection.
The PFRA.250.2 is a UL Recognized, 2-post, time-delay resettable fuse. It provides overcurrent and overvoltage protection for high-end, high current automotive applications. It consists of a PTC thermistor and a fuse element coupled with a heat sink. The thermistor has two temperature coefficients. If its ambient temperature overcomes the changing point, the thermistor changes from a low resistance to a high resistance, diverting current away from the load and allowing the fuse element to continue to trip and open the circuit, thus interrupting the current flow. The PTC thermistor acts as an ideal Protector when the load shorts out or is overloaded, but will reset when the system returns to normal conditions and is cooled off.
The PFRA.250.2 features an environmentally sealed package for protection from water, dust, and other contaminants. Its long-term construction features two conductive metal blades that are insulated from each other to ensure safe operation in slight exposure to moisture. The package also provides easy installation, allowing it to be mounted directly onto a printed circuit board without the need for separate hardware. It has an operating temperature range of –40 to +85°C and is rated up to 32A.
In comparison with other resettable fuse technologies, such as PPTC and PTCS devices, the PFRA.250.2 offers superior performance in terms of thermal resistance and trip response time. It is also a better choice for applications where additional protection is required against fluctuating current since it features an operational delay that limits the impact of the current on the load.
