PTC resettable fuses, also known as polyfuse, are current-limiting protection devices designed to replace the typical fuse. PTC resettable fuses are designed to provide current limiting protection, while simultaneously offering overcurrent protection. Unlike a traditional fuse, a PTC resettable fuse can be manually reset after tripping due to an overload, making it an ideal choice for those applications that require frequent resets. The PFRA.900 series of PTC resettable fuses are designed specifically for use in Motor, battery, pump, and inverter applications, and are manufactured with a number of features that make them simple to use and highly reliable.
The PFRA.900 series of resettable fuses is designed with a standard cylindrical body made out of a thermoplastic material. The main body of the fuse contains two metal plates (an anode and a cathode), and two internal resistors. The resistors are connected in series with the current path between the anode and cathode, and when the current flowing between the anode and cathode reach a specific level, the two resistors heat up, causing the thermoplastic body of the fuse to expand in size. This expansion of the body causes the internal connections between the metal plates to be broken, effectively shutting off the current flow and “tripping” the fuse.
Once the PFRA.900 PTC resettable fuse has tripped, it can be reset manually by pressing the reset button on the side of the fuse. When the reset button is pushed, it forces the two internal resistors back into contact with the anode and cathode plates, causing them to cool down and the thermoplastic body of the fuse to return to its original size. This allows current to flow again between the anode and cathode plates of the fuse and restores normal operation.
The PFRA.900 series of PTC resettable fuses are specifically designed to be used in Motor, battery, pump, and inverter applications, and feature a number of unique features that make them well suited to these types of applications.
