CPUs, digital signal processors and FPGAs have common power, data, IO and clock requirements. The PI6C184HEX is one such device designed for this purpose.

PI6C184HEX is a low skew, low-jitter, and six-output clock buffer/driver IC capable of providing several configurable paths with data rates up to 200MHz. It is small (MSOP-10) and has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C making it ideal for space-constrained applications. This clock buffer/driver is also backward compatible with regulators, featuring high voltage and temperature tolerance.

The PI6C184HEX outputs can be synchronized with the input clock, presenting a delay-locked loop configuration. A reference input allows for tight regulation of the output. It has an adjustable phase-lock loop scheme which provides feedback for additional level-shifting, if necessary. An on-chip phase-detector (PD) is included for phase-integration and noise immunity. The PD also provides basic phase-detection and synchronization between the output clocks.

The PI6C184HEX outputs are designed to be driven into multiple loads. The maximum load for each output is 25pF. The outputs can be configured via the serial digital bit stream and are guaranteed to have a low timing variation (delta T) of +/-50ps. The delay offset between different outputs (delta T) can also be adjusted.

The PI6C184HEX can be used to generate multiple outputs from one input clock source. It has an output enable (OE) pin that allows all outputs to run at the same frequency or allows individual outputs to be switched on or off. The OE pin also allows frequency synthesis with the input clock. The PI6C184HEX utilizes two power pins, an input clock and two optional side-band control pins, as well as an output enable pin. It also has a single reference input for the phase lock loop.
