Working Principle

The PI6LC5011-01LEX is a symmetrical, variable frequency, dual-channel, clock synthesizer, capable of generating a complete alternate cycle for each output signal. A 32-bit internal register is used to set the frequency and to divide the frequency output (phase modulation). This register is programmable through a serial port interface.

The PI6LC5011-01LEX can be programmed to generate signal frequencies ranging from 10 kHz to 10+GHz. The device contains an internal temperature compensation circuit that monitors the operating temperature and adjusts the output frequency accordingly. This ensures optimum output signal frequency stability over varying temperatures. The output signals can be set to ramp, or sine wave form, with adjustable slopes and frequency modulation depth.

The PI6LC5011-01LEX is designed to provide Input/Output flexibility and low external component count to reduce system size and cost. The internal PLL can be programmed to accept either a single-clock input or different clock signals. The single-clock input can be used to provide a synchronous clock source even when the application needs to change frequency. It also offers an External Trigger input or a Programmable input pin to control the frequency Load/Unload functions.
