Working principle

The PL102-10SC-R frequency synthesizer works by using a PLL (phase-locked loop). This PLL consists of a loop filter, a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and a programmable counter. At the input of the synthesizer is an external crystal oscillator. This oscillator generates an input signal (fIn) which is then converted by the PLL with the help of the loop filter, VCO and programmable counter components.

The loop filter passes the input signal and adjusts its phase to match the output signal from the VCO. The output signal from the VCO (fOut) is the master clock frequency for the counter and its frequency can be adjusted by the capacitor and resistor in the loop filter. The programmable counter then takes the output signal from the VCO and divides it until the desired output frequency (fOut) is achieved at the output of the synthesizer.
