LED Drivers refer to a kind of power supply or controller applied in LED circuitry. It usually consists of a rectifier, controller chip, step-down converter and other integrated circuits. Usually the voltage or current can be adjusted through the LED Driver.

The PLED120W-086 is an LED Driver integrated by an efficient low frequency quasi-resonant converter and a controller chip, which are especially suitable for driving a single/multi-string LED modules with constant current. It has a wide input voltage range from 90VAC to 135VAC, compatible with 277VAC or 480VAC. It has constant power output and it allows dimming control.

Application Field

The power adapter of the PLED120W-086 module is widely used in indoor and outdoor LED light fixtures as well as in LED display or billboard. For instance, it can be applied in the lighting of residential homes, villa, station, shop, mall, etc.; and in the lighting of commercial shop windows, bars, pubs, etc.; and in the lighting of outdoor billboard, building, bridge, courtyard, and other areas. It has perfect protection functions, including electrical overload protection, short circuit protection, over temperature protection, and under voltage protection.

Working Principle

The working principle of this LED Driver is based on a low frequency quasi-resonant converter and a controller chip. Its working frequency is about 45KHz, allowing it to have high efficiency, low output ripple voltage, and small heat dissipation. The control chip can dynamically monitor AC voltage, adjust output voltage to reach the highest efficiency of the power adapter and ensure stable working, meeting the requirements of EN61000-3-2 standard.

The controller chip supports 2 types of dimming control: the leading edge dimmer and the trailing edge dimmer. When it is connected with the leading edge dimmer, the dimming range will be from 0.03V to the input voltage VAC. When it is connected with the trailing edge dimmer, the dimming range will be from the input voltage VAC to 0.03V. In both cases, the dimming range is 0%~100%.

The module of PLED120W-086 has two channels of equal current output. The output supply current can be adjusted with the setting of current port and the output voltage is limited within 39-46V. The output allows constant power output and the output power will not be changed with the variation of the input voltage. Its typical efficiencies are up to 88% and its maximum efficiency can reach up to 96%, which is 1%-2% higher than the similar DC-DC converter.
