- Overview
- The PM-T45-P is a slot type photointerrupter designed to detect the presence of objects, predominantly discs that pass through an illuminated slot. It features a logic output, where the output is in a high state when a disc is present and low when there is an interrupt. It is comprised of an infrared LED and a phototransistor that when used together can provide digital switching effect.
- Application Field
- The PM-T45-P, due its ability to detect the presence of objects, notably discs, is particularly useful in signal processing applications. This type of photointerrupter is often coupled with an Arduino or Raspberry Pi to provide an output when a disc passes through an illuminated slot. It is often used in disc-based signal processing such as disc-reading robots, depth sensing, position sensing, and many more.
- Working Principle
- The PM-T45-P is comprised of an infrared LED and a phototransistor, which when used together create the digital switching effect. When a disc is within the illuminated slot, the phototransistor is switched on, thus allowing current to flow and resulting in a high output voltage. Conversely, when the disc is not present, the phototransistor is switched off, thus blocking current and resulting in a low output voltage. This on/off switching allows the PM-T45-P to provide a digital logic output, and to detect the presence of passing discs.
