PM8321-PI Application Field and Working Principle
Introduction:
PM8321-PI is an interface module manufactured by Ericsson, designed to enable the exchange of information between digital telephony switches and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). It provides data access, which is essential for information exchange. In addition, it also supports a wide range of optional data services and measuring accessories for measuring, monitoring and controlling digital telecommunication networks and VoIP – Voice over internet protocol (IP) networks. This paper will discuss the application fields and working principle of PM8321-PI.Application Field:
PM8321-PI is mainly used in digital telephony systems but is often used in conjunction with other technologies in order to enable access to and support of services such as, VoIP, voicemail, call routing, call control and fax services. In addition to its uses in digital telephony systems, PM8321-PI can be used in VoIP networks to enable voice communication over the Internet, a wide range of additional features, such as call-waiting, call forwarding, caller-ID and voicemail. PM8321-PI can also be used to provide access to PSTN networks, providing a wide range of data services and measuring accessories for measuring, monitoring and controlling digital telecommunication networks and VoIP – Voice over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Moreover, the PM8321-PI can also be used for Wide Area Network (WAN) access and for LAN access.Working Principle:
PM8321-PI is based on the principles of Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) access. The PM8321-PI interface utilizes two sets of local loops (as ‘terminators’) in order to connect two separate networks. The first set of local loops is connected to the PSTN infrastructure and the second set of loops is connected to the digital switching equipment of the telecommunication company. This allows the two networks to exchange information through the interface.The PSTN infrastructure contains various components such as modems, routers, multiplexers and switches. All of these components are necessary for the creation and management of the PSTN networks as they control the flow of data and control the information.The router is one of the most important components of the PSTN infrastructure. It is responsible for routing of data from one network to another. It forwards the data from the source device to the destination device by means of an appropriate internet protocol address. Multiplexers are also necessary for the management of the PSTN infrastructure. The multiplexers receive the incoming signals and forward them onto the appropriate devices for further processing. The switches are responsible for ‘switching’ the data from one device to another. The switches are also responsible for the control of the bandwidth in order to ensure that the data is sent in an efficient manner. Once the exchange of data is completed, the PM8321-PI is responsible for receiving the data and forwarding it onto the correct destination. This is achieved by two processes; the data is received in the form of packets, these packets are then parsed, then the required destination address is retrieved and the appropriate data is sent to the correct device.Conclusion:
