.Slide Potentiometers are commonly used in a variety of applications for determining the relationship between two variable values. The PS60-10MC2AR50K is a digital slide potentiometer that is designed to switch between two variable (one adjustable and one fixed) voltage values, supplying the adjustable voltage. It can be used in a variety of applications including digital music and gaming consoles, automotive and domestic control systems, test equipment, and robotics.
The potentiometer is constructed from three basic parts. The first part consists of a resistor, which when connected in series to the other two parts forms an electric circuit. This resistor is designed to establish a fixed voltage value, or “reference” voltage, which provides the basis for the other two parts. Thus, by adjusting the slide switch along the length of the stainless steel cartridge, the user can alter the voltage output from the adjustable voltage source accordingly.
In addition to controlling the adjustable voltage source, the PS60-10MC2AR50K is also able to detect a static voltage, known as a “set point voltage”, and control the adjustable voltage source accordingly. This set point voltage is stored in a non-volatile memory on the microcontroller, and can be programmed to the desired level. Once set, the voltage can be adjusted up or down depending on the requirements of the application.
