DC DC Converters

DC-DC converters are electronic power converters that convert a source of direct current (DC) from one voltage level to another. Working Principle

The PSA55-7 utilizes a switching converter topology to convert a DC voltage input to a higher DC voltage output. It employs a two-stage buck-boost switching converter. In the first stage, a boost converter is used to increase the input voltage to a level slightly higher than the output voltage, which is then regulated in the second stage by a buck converter. This two-stage approach ensures the PSA55-7 has high efficiency and small size.

In addition to the two-stage mechanism, the PSA55-7 also features a low start-up voltage and soft-start feature. This allows the output voltage to start up at a predetermined voltage (typically 3.3V) and gradually ramp up to its rated voltage, reducing the impact of in-rush current. The soft-start feature also helps reduce the possibility of damage to the load and helps stabilize the output voltage. Additionally, the PSA55-7 has a built-in over-current protection, allowing it to safely shut down if the current through it exceeds its maximum limit.
