PT5026N Working Principle

The PT5026N is composed of both PWM and PFM technologies which create a nearly continuous conversion by modulating the output voltage quite effectively. It relies on the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) principles for its operation. To increase the efficiency of the power conversion, the PWM mode is employed when the output current is low, while the PFM size can be employed when the output current is greater.

In PWM mode, an external PWM signal is used to control the power switch on/off duty cycle, used by the PT5026N, to achieve the right output voltage. The PWM duty cycle is continuously readjusted to maintain the desired output voltage. The PFM mode is activated when the output current is higher than a certain level and the duty cycle is connected with the output current by regulating the amplitude of the control signal. This helps the PT5026N attain stable and efficient performance.

The PT5026N also uses a unique feature called ‘Dynamic Voltage Scaling’ (DVS) which allows it to monitor its output voltage, which makes it suitable for dynamic load applications. In addition, the converter is able to react to load changes as well as enhance the efficiency during light loads.
