Working Principle of PT5107C

PT5107C is a step-down DC-DC converter. It achieves high efficiency by using a constant-on-time (COT) control scheme. COT control uses a resistor to sense the feedback voltage. A sample of the feedback voltage is taken using a clock divider and compared to a reference voltage generated from the resistor. If the feedback voltage is higher than the reference voltage, then the COT signal will turn off the MOSFETs. If the feedback voltage is lower, the COT signal will extend the length of the MOSFET’s “on” state so that it will reach the voltage of the reference voltage.

The PT5107C also includes a soft start circuit which reduces inrush current during startup and keeps the output voltage low until the device can regulate it at the correct output level. The device has an internal under voltage lockout (UVLO) circuit that prevents the device from operating when the input voltage is too low. The device also includes a short-to-ground and over-temperature shutdown (OTSD) circuit in order to protect the device from damage.
