DC-DC converters play an important role in harnessing and controlling power for a wide range of electronic devices. These converters supply electrical energy with the necessary voltage and current required for the proper operation of the device. The PT6622L is a high performance, isolated DC-DC converter with wide inputs ranging from 9V to 18V and with an adjustable output range up to 25V. It has an input to output isolation of two thousand V.The PT6622L makes use of a synchronous power converter topology called a step down buck topology, this topology is constructed from two switches which are connected in a very specific way such that the ratio of the energy transfer from the input to the load is determined by the gate bias given to one of these two switches.
The PT6622L also incorporates linear regulation technology which makes it possible to have a good load regulation (Also known as line regulation), with an adjustable output voltage from 0.5V to 25V with a minimum current capacity of 3A and a maximum of 15A and peak output of 20A.Load regulation is the characteristic that determines how well a converter can deliver power to a load without significant changes in the output voltage range.The principle of regulating the output voltage of the converter is to measure the output voltage and compare its actual value with the reference value.When the output voltage is lower than the set value, the controller will increase the duty cycle of the converter and supply more energy until the output voltage reaches the set value. If the output voltage is higher than the set value, the controller will reduce the duty cycle until the output voltage drops to the set value.
The PT6622L also features certain protections such as a built-in thermal protection, a built-in over voltage protection (OVP), a short circuit protection (SCP) and a feed forward compensation to ensure good transient response and the ability to maintain stability under varying input and output conditions.It is equipped with a power good signal and a control pin for output voltage and current adjustment.The power good signal is a digital signal that indicates the status of the output voltage.It is used to monitor whether the output voltage is within the normal range.If it is not, the power good signal will be low. This signal can be used to detect a fault or abnormal loading condition.The control pin can be used to adjust the output voltage or current.
