DC-DC converters are an important class of power electronics that are used for various converter applications. Application Field

Working Principle

The PT6653B uses a full-bridge LLC series resonant topology, which consists of 4 switches (M1-M4), two resonant capacitors (C1 and C2) and one resonant inductor (LLE). The operating principle of this type of converter is that the switches M1 to M4 are turned on and off periodically to realize the conversion of energy in the input to the output. And two resonant capacitors (C 1 and C 2) are connected in series and the resonant inductors LLE form a resonant tank, which makes the circuit equivalent to the series of an LC oscillator. The switching frequency can be controlled by changing the value of LC. The DC-DC converter also uses pulse width modulation (PWM) technique, which can be used to adjust the output voltage by changing the ratio or pulse width (Tp).

When the LLC converter is working, the four switches are arranged in an H-bridge. In order to ensure that no shoot-through current flows between the switches, the output of the converter must be in zero voltage state when the M4 is switched on. This can be achieved by adjusting the gate drive signal of M3 and using a high frequency voltage control feedback loop. In addition, the circuit also provides current limitation, overload protection, and short-circuit protection functions to protect the load from over-current.

The PT6653B is equipped with an internal temperature monitoring circuit and provides thermal protection, OVP and UVP protection functions. When the operating temperature of the device exceeds the specified temperature, a thermal protection signal will be output, and the converter will be disabled if the temperature continues to rise.

In addition, the PT6653B has an integrated, efficient loop compensation circuit which ensures its wide load range and low noise, helping achieve higher power conversion efficiency. The converter uses an internal multiplier to provide a high frequency clock signal, which is used to reduce the external component count and improves the performance of the converter.
