The 74HC373PE is a 8-bit D-type transparent latch with 3-state outputs. It is part of the advanced High-Speed CMOS logic family, which has the characteristics of low power consumption and fast switching speed. It is well suited for buffer or line-driver applications that require supply and output voltages from 2.0V to 6V, operating over a -40°C to 85°C temperature range. The 74HC373PE provides high-speed and high output current capability. Typically, 12mA sink and 20mA source per output may be drawn from this device. It has separateOutput Enable (OE) and Input Enable (±E) controls that enable/disable the latch and its output buffer, respectively. It also features low output impedance and a maximum low input leakage current of 1µA.
The 74HC373PE is widely used in applications that require the operation of logic gates and the transmission of binary signals. It is also useful for the simulation of sequential logic registers, shift registers and counters, wherein the synchronous system clock and reset inputs are used to control the register’s internal states. In addition, the performance and significant noise immunity of the 74HC373PE make it particularly suitable for robust communication systems.
The device operates from a dual supply from 2.0Vto 6V. It has an input logic threshold that is consistent with standard CMOS outputs, providing an implicit base for voltage level conversion. As a result, it enables the transfer of logic information between CMOS, LSTTL, and other logic families. The latch inputs can be driven by logic signals up to and including the supply voltage, while the 3-state outputs may be overridden by high impedance when the respective Output Enable (OE) is active.
The 74HC373PE has an asynchronous active-Low Reset that clears or disables all of the outputs. It also has active-High Input Enable (±E) and Output Enable (OE) controls to enable and disable the latch and its output, respectively. All outputs are in high-impedance state whenever the Output Enable (OE) is High. The reset of this device is edge-sensitive, thus, is independent from the clock operation. The input and output noise immunity level is guaranteed at 0.2V for all supply voltage levels.
The 74HC373PE has a wide variety of applications, such as, serving as a buffer between parallel and series buses, controlling the output bandwidth of logic gates, and interfacing to bus-hold circuits. In addition, it is useful in multiplexer address decoding, sequencer control and system clock generation. It is available in the standard-DIP, TSSOP and SMD packaging, making it ideal for prototyping and interface applications.
