DC-DC converters are devices that convert direct current (DC) from one type to another. In particular, the PT7751C application field is a high-efficiency, miniature DC-DC converter with dual output from a single input from 3.3 to 24V. It is excellent for cost-sensitive mobile communication systems, automotive and LCD TV applications. This converter also has a variety of features that make it ideal for board and system applications.
The PT7751C device is a multi-mode synchronous buck regulator that efficiently operated with input voltages up to 24V without needing an external FET. The two channels output can be configured in a variety of combinations. The configurable output voltage is from 0.6V to 6V with a switching frequency of 300kHz providing an efficiency up to 90%.
The main operating principle of the PT7751C is, when the output is system OFF, a 100K ohm resistor bridging 2 and 12 pins forces VIN into 2 pins. The internal P-Channel MOSFET works as a short circuit between Gate and Source. This situation changes when the turn-on signal is applied to EN pin. STBY voltage turns off the internal PMOS and then the internal LDO works as a reference voltage regulator.
When the voltage anode of B1 is higher than 0.3V, the output voltage is configured to 4.5V and the VIN to FB0 pin, which acts as a DC reference, ensuring the system stability. When the VB0 voltage exceeds 4.5V, the NMOS Q1 simultaneously turns on and Q2 simultaneously turns off. The current flows through the inductor and is limited by the parameter of the current loop. The voltage of B0 is compared to the FB0 voltage and changes the duty cycle of the PWM signal. Therefore, the inductor current through the LED turns on the Q2 and continue to cycle.
The PT7751C integrates a 1A MOSFET, high-accuracy voltage reference, fast transient response, output discharge, output over-voltage protection, under-voltage lockout, jitter-free operation, low quiescent current (1uA in standby mode) and a clean electrical noise. It also has current-sharing channel architecture for dual output applications which provide a wide range of output power at high efficiency. It offers high accuracy of 0.6% with positive output voltage accuracy from 0.6V to 6V with ±0.6%.
The PT7751C is ideal for a variety of applications such as mobile communication systems, automotive, LCD TVs, and board and system applications. Its wide range of features make it attractive to cost sensitive applications. Through its dual output capacity, the PT7751C is capable of supplying the necessary up and down voltages.
