PT7M6144NLEXVEX is a single-chip reset and power management solution designed to provide microcontroller designs with reset, power-on reset (POR), and power supervision. This highly integrated single chip solution in 8-pin package is ideal where space is at a premium, yet system safety requirements must still be met. In addition, the internal power supervision related to system power on and brown-out has improved the user experience and enabled a flexible system power reset design.
Application Field
Systems powered by batteries, such as medical electronic systems, portable measurement equipment, and communication products, generally require a power management system for reset circuit and for power supply supervision. Therefore, PT7M6144NLEXVEX has been designed and built to provide maximum safety features, such as power-up/down reset, clock supervision and battery brown-out sequence adjustment.
PT7M6144NLEXVEX include various features that make it attractive for use in handheld, battery-powered devices. It functions as a reset controller for microcontrollers and devices such as LCDs. In addition to reset, the device has programmable reset levels with an adjustable reset time delay, a reset signal output indicator, and a programmable reset signal output by pulse width modulation (PWM). Working Principle
The working principle of PT7M6144NLEXVEX is based on the operation of a Reset Controller using true open drain outputs. This Reset Controller supports a Voltage Supervisor, Battery Brown-Out Circuit (BBOC) and Digital Watchdog (WD).
The Voltage Supervisor monitors the system power supply for any out-of-specified conditions, such as voltage under-voltage or over-voltage. This feature is especially useful, when taking into account the possibility of input power fluctuations. Once the power supply reaches an under-voltage or over-voltage level, the Voltage Supervisor output will be set high or low, respectively, to indicate that the system power supply must be checked, reset or power-cycled to bring it back to the proper operating conditions.
The Battery Brown-Out Circuit (BBOC) provides a reset signal when there is insufficient voltage in the battery to allow the system to run safely. This reset signal will reset the system to a safe state and disable any further battery usage. The Digital Watchdog is also equipped with a programmable time-out period which, when reached, will cause the system to reset.
The PT7M6144NLEXVEX also features an adjustable reset timed delay. When the reset timer delay feature is activated, the device will wait for the pre-defined period of time and then reset the system if no clock pulses are detected. This feature enables the PT7M6144N to control the battery brown-out sequence, delaying a reset long enough to allow the battery to power itself down without the need for manual intervention.
