Slide Potentiometers

A slide potentiometer, also referred to as a linear field effect transistor (FET) potentiometer, is a type of potentiometer that uses a sliding contact to adjust the resistance when the knob is rotated. The PTL45-1500-105A2 is a slide potentiometer that has a variety of uses including, but not limited to: controlling the speed of a motor or the brightness of a light; used in variety of consumer electronic products; controlling the volumne levels in audio equipment.

Working Principle

The PTL45-1500-105A2 utilizes two FETs, one of which is coupled with a resister that performs a voltage divider action. The sliding contact is connected to a rotatable knob. As the knob is rotated, the sliding contact moves and creates different voltage readings. The knob is connected to a switch that signals the FETs when the current is passed through the resistor. This switch then determines the output voltage and can be adjusted to provide different resistance levels.

Application Field

The PTL45-1500-105A2 is commonly used in variety of consumer electronic products, such as television sets, computers, stereos and other sound systems. The slide potentiometer can also be used for adjusting volume levels, controlling the speed of a motor, and controlling the brightness of a light. Additionally, although not commonly used, the PTL45-1500-105A2 can be used to measure voltage and current in certain types of industrial processes.
