1. Describe

The PTN78060WAST is a family of high efficiency, step-down integrated switching regulators (ISRs) representing The third generation is an evolution of the popular (PT) 78ST200, 78ST300, (PT) 78HT200 and 78HT300 series. The PTN78060 series can also be considered as a replacement for the PT6200, PT6210 and PT6300 series single in-line (SIP) products in new designs. In all cases, the PTN78060 has similar or improved electrical performance characteristics. The caseless double-sided package has excellent thermal characteristics and is compatible with TI's RoHS and lead-free compliance roadmap. The PTN78060 operates over a wide input voltage range and provides high efficiency, step-down voltage Converts to loads up to 3 A. The output voltage can be set to any value within a wide adjustment range using a single external resistor. The PTN78060W can be set to any value from 2.5 V to 12.6 V and the PTN78060H is 11.85 V to 22 V. The output voltage of the PTN78060W can be as low as 2 V compared to the input, and the operating voltage can be as low as 7 V. The output voltage is 5 V. The output voltage of the PTN78060H can be 3 V lower than the input, allowing operation down to 15 V at a 12 V output voltage. The PTN78060 features undervoltage lockout, integrated on/off suppression, and includes output current limit and thermal protection. It is ideal for general application 12V, 24V or 28V DC power supply for various shutdown operations.

6. Input/Output Capacitors

The easiest way to reduce output ripple and noise is to add one or more 1µF ceramic capacitors. Ceramic capacitors should be placed close to the output power terminals. For modules rated output current less than 3 A, a single 2.2µF capacitor can reduce output ripple/noise by 10% to 30%. A switching regulator draws current from the input line in pulses at its operating frequency. a lot of The resulting reflected (input) ripple/noise is proportional to the equivalent source impedance of the power supply, including the impedance of any input lines. Adding a minimum 2.2µF ceramic capacitor C1 near the input supply pin can reduce reflected conducted ripple/noise by up to 20%.

7. Selectable input/output filters

Power modules contain internal input and output ceramic capacitors in all their designs. However, some applications require much lower input reflections or output ripple/noise. This application describes various filters and design techniques that have been successful in reducing input and output ripple/noise.

8. Output on/off inhibit

Suppression can be used anywhere the output voltage needs to be turned off. When the disable control (pin 3) is on, as long as the valid source voltage is connected to VI relative to GND, the power module will function properly and provide a stable output. Note the discrete transistor (Q1). Turning on Q1 applies a low voltage to the disable control pin and shuts down the module. The output voltage decays as the load circuit discharges the capacitor. The current drawn at the input typically drops to 17 mA. If Q1 is subsequently turned off, the module performs a soft start on power-up. The regulated output voltage is generated within 20 ms.
