The PWRSHIELD Evaluation Board is an Expansion Board, Daughter Card, designed for users to evaluate different Xilinx FPGA power management techniques. The PWRSHIELD allows users to provide their own power supply options and current measurement (CM) systems. This makes the PWRSHIELD useful for evaluating various types of power management techniques, and for higher power applications where an external power supply is required. The PWRSHIELD expansion board provides the user with two Xilinx FPGA’s, each with 256-pin Pico E600 pinouts and eight Xilinx power monitoring pins to provide accurate current monitoring and power supply flexibility. The eight Xilinx power monitoring pins are attached to a separate bus for easy power supply connections. The power supply input plugs into the board directly, while the current monitoring pins are designed to accept a wide range of external current measuring devices.

The PWRSHIELD includes an on-board voltage regulator and an adjustable voltage rail to facilitate testing for different applications. The adjustable voltage rail is routed to the Xilinx FPGAs for easy voltage measurement and control. The adjustable voltage rail also features a trim adjustment to allow for more precise power regulation if needed. Also included with the PWRSHIELD is a users manual which describes the features of the board in detail and how to set up and operate the board.

The PWRSHIELD Module includes a software library which provides users with a customizable API for controlling and monitoring FPGA power. The library contains example code to help users quickly get up and running with their power management project. The library also provides APIs for programmatically controlling the adjustable voltage rail and importing external current measurement data.
