DC-DC Converters are electronic devices that convert a direct current voltage to a direct current voltage of a different magnitude. The PXD3024S05 is a DC-DC converter manufactured by Power-One Corporation and designed for wide input voltage range and universal AC voltage input. The PXD3024S05 is a universal input, 2-output, isolated converter that provides 24W, 5V regulated and 15.5W, 3.3V regulated outputs from a universal input of 90–264VAC, 47–63Hz. It features a high 85–264VAC input range and operates without the need for an external standby supply. The input stage consists of a reinforced isolated PFC input circuit, which includes an active power-factor correction circuit providing an input current with high power- factor and low harmonic distortion. The PXD3024S05 is suitable for applications such as powering modules in distributed telecommunications systems, data acquisition/measurement devices, embedded PCs and personal computers, industrial automation systems, and point of sale equipment. The robust design ensures reliable operation in a wide temperature range of −40°C to +60°C, making it suitable for harsher environmental conditions. It features an adjustable output voltage of 3.3V to 5V, providing an accuracy of ±2%, over-voltage protection, and over-temperature protection. The output voltage is set using onboard digital trimming, providing exact voltage settings up to ±225mV accuracy. The device also has over-load protection and low leakage current of 0.75mA.The operating principle of the PXD3024S05 is as follows. When power is applied to the input, the integrated circuit within the converter is enabled and the input voltage is regulated by a linear regulator. This regulates the voltage on the input side and the output side is regulated by an internal current-mode voltage regulator operating off the main input supply. The output voltage can then be adjusted with the external voltage-setting resistor. The isolated converter is designed such that the 8th harmonic of the output ripple is reduced to less than 50mV and further interenternal compensation extends the stability of the converter at high loads.To ensure reliable operation, the converter is designed to meet the EU Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) directive and has full certificated compliance. The converter meets EN55022 and EN61000-3-2 specifications for conducted EMI. The PXD3024S05 has an integrated 12-bit real-time clock with a programmable wake-up timer, reducing the average power consumption, and enhancing energy saving efficiency. Overall, the PXD3024S05 is a robust DC-DC converter suitable for industrial and distributed communications applications. It offers remarkable power and efficiency savings, without compromising the performance of the system.
