QR/P-XC-221(12) Application Field and Working Principle

QR/P-XC-221(12) backplane connectors are a type of electrical connectors used to create highly reliable connection within a cabinet. It is mainly used to interconnect components of a backplane, strip off electrical signals and control the distribution and protection of signals and power. In addition, data transmission, signal isolation and grounding applications are also applicable.

In its use, the main components of a QR/P-XC-221(12) comprise of contacts, insulators, terminals and a housing. These components are constructed from different materials such as: phosphor bronze with gold plating, liquid crystal polymer or polyester elastomer, alloy steel with chrome plated and LCP or polyester elastomer.

The contact element is the key connecting component for a QR/P-XC-221(12) application and holds an essential role in signal transmission. It acts as a link between the mating shells to achieve connectivity. The contact is composed of three sections: the wire-style contact – making contact; the seal – ensuring electrical current flow within the components; and the locking part – to support the contact in the connector. It uses special "finger" design to ensure maximum connection and stability against electrical shock. The terminal is composed of a torso, eyelet and cavity that are designed to support contact spring load and even gap. The terminal is manufactured with a high quality alloy steel and electro-plated with chromium to ensure superior performance.

The contact insulation is a molded material made of either liquid crystal polymer or polyester elastomer. It is highly flexible, resistant to chemicals and has excellent insulation and dielectric properties. In its assembly, the insulation eliminates the possibility of short circuit and maintains a safe electrical connection.

The housing design of a QR/P-XC-221(12) is a multi-level W-shaped component that generally looks like a flat rectangular plate. It is composed of two sheets locked together securely by way of a central stud and nut. The anti-vibration mechanism of the part provides added security against shock and vibration, as well as ensuring perfect connection even during extreme conditions. The housing is made of LCP or polyester elastomer to ensure complete protection from external liquids and debris, and all moldings are treated with special anti-corrosion coating.
