QT117L-ISG is an example of an advanced capacitive touch interface sensor. It offers a high degree of feature flexibility and is ideal for use in automated manufacturing, industrial control, home and office automation, automotive, telecommunications and other applications requiring a reliable capacitive sensing solution.The QT117L-ISG is a surface-mount monolithic chip combining a capacitive sensing function, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and a digital interface. It features a unique array of 16 electrodes that form the capacitive sensing matrix. When a finger, touch or object is placed upon the sensing area, the single-touch capacitance is measured through the electrodes and an output value is generated.The capacitive sensing element of the QT117L-ISG is an 18-electrode array. Depending on the design, signals may be sent via a single wire, two I/O pins, or multiple I/O pins. The 18 electrodes, divided into four groups, have been configured to create a single-touch capacitive sensing matrix, with the full array consisting of 32 x 32 electrode groupings.The touch detection algorithm implemented in the QT117L-ISG is an adjustable-sensitivity algorithm that dynamically adjusts the sensitivity of the touch detection. This helps to reduce or eliminate false-positive touches and provides improved noise immunity. In addition, the electrode array layout allows the user to select large or small touch targets, as well as two, three or four-point touches.The QT117L-ISG’s analog-to-digital converter (ADC) can acquire and process analog signal inputs, such as temperature and data signals, in order to return a digital signal delineating the changes or differences in the analog signal. The ADC can sample multiple channels up to 8 MSPS.The integrated digital interface has a four wire serial interface for communication between the sensor and host system. The interface supports SPI, I2C, I2S and other serial communication protocols. The QT117L-ISG is capable of multiplexing between the sensing function and communication interface, so as to enable instant capacitive sensing after a communication interface transaction.The QT117L-ISG offers many features and functions that are desired in industrial control and home automation applications. The device supports a wide range of touch target shapes and sizes, and its adjustable-sensitivity touch detection algorithm offers good noise immunity.
