Optoisolators – Triac, SCR Output, are electronic components used in the field of isolating low voltage circuits from high voltage circuits or from electronics circuits containing ultra sensitive components which could easily be damaged by high voltages or high currents or sensors, often found in the industrial, medical and scientific applications.

QTT1213ST1 is one of the type of optoisolators – Triac, SCR Output. This optoisolator is fitted with a semiconductor in the middle of a light emitting diode and a phototransistor. It acts as a separation bridge between circuits, which isolates the input electronic signal from the output. This component usually finds its application in motor control circuits, automotive body control systems and in circuit breaker and switch control applications.

The working principle behind the QTT1213ST1 optoisolator is simple. First, the input signal is converted to an electrical impulse using the LED-Phototransistor device. This pulse is then sent to the output in the form of voltage signal which can be used to control the required device. The output signal is completely separate from the input, as the only pathway between them is through the LED-Phototransistor device.

The electrical specifications of QTT1213ST1 optoisolator are an operating temperature range of -40 to +85 °C, a collector to emitter saturated voltage of 2.0 V (max) and a collector to emitter wattage of 0.1 (max). The maximum working voltage is also on the range of 50VDC. It is sold in pre-wired and surface mount versions, the latter being more suitable for low-volume applications.

In addition, this optoisolator is able to switch currents up to 6A, with the help of a snubber circuit. It is also used in flashing circuit applications, where it is triggered by short electrical pulses from the flashing circuit controller. This optoisolator can also be used to control larger loads, such as power switching, motor control, etc.
