QVA11324 Application Field and Working Principle
Optical Sensors have many applications in various fields. One of the most common types of these sensors is the Photointerrupter.The QVA11324 is an improved version of a Slot Type Photointerrupter and has a Transistor Output.The QVA11324 is a sensitive, compact and robust photointerrupter transceiver that has been designed to detect the presence of objects within narrow spaces. The Photointerrupter is also able to detect and switch alternately between two different objects in a single target gap. The interference of light background is prevented thereby providing reliable and stable sensing results.The slot type photointerrupter is most common in industrial controls, scientific research, machinery, semiconductor production, and many areas where objects need to be detected within narrow spaces with short distance. This Photointerrupter was mainly designed to detect the presence or absence of ferrous objects within a certain gap with the help of infrared light emitting diode (LED) and a phototransistor (PT) arranged adjacent to each other.??Both the Infrared emitting diode and the phototransistor are located in an integrated body, where the LED is at the transmitting side and the phototransistor at the receiving side. The LED emits infrared light when connected to a 5V power supply, and the phototransistor detects when the light is interrupted when the ferrous object passes in the target gap. This variation of voltage is amplified by the transistor and the output is obtained at the collector pin.The QVA11324 device is a complete solution for detecting the presence of an object in a target gap and also when the edges are close located with a distance of only 13 mm. Its metal shielded case provides reliable and consistent detection and also helps in EMC. The device has an ambient light rejection of 20 lx. The package size of this device is 6 mm (H) x 14.2 mm (W) x 11 mm (D) and it has a sensitivity of 1.5 mm.The working principle of the QVA11324 consists in its structure, wherein the infrared LED and the phototransistor are in close proximity. With the high output of LED, light is able to pass through the object and its reflection is detected by the phototransistor. This variation in voltage is amplified by the transistor and the output is obtained at the collector pin. The overall working of the system is based on any variation in the target gap.The QVA11324 has been designed to detect small adjustments in the target gap to provide reliable and stable sensing results. The device is robust and can be used in harsh environments and in temperatures from -30°C to 55°C (-22°F to 131°F). This Photointerrupter is an ideal choice for applications where objects need to be detected in difficult spaces with short distance.These features of the QVA11324 make it a great choice for a number of applications, such as alarm systems, medical equipment, industrial automation, robotics and more. It is a reliable and cost-effective device to measure the presence or absence of an object within a certain target gap.
