DC to DC converters are widely used devices in both commercial and industrial applications. Most DC to DC converters take the form of an integrated circuits (ICs) to provide various direct current (DC) voltage or current outputs from an input DC voltage or current supplied to the input of the DC to DC converter. The R24P22005D/P is one such DC to DC converter is a voltage controlled linear regulator that provides a regulated output voltage as compared to an adjustable output voltage.
The R24P22005D/P is a high power, 24V, 5A DC/DC converter with a wide input range of 4.5-27V and an internal temperature compensated voltage control circuit. It operates with a wide input voltage range, allowing input voltages from 4.5V to 27V from battery and other DC sources. The output voltage range is adjustable from 4V to 28.8V and features a long hold up time capability, which ensures clean operation of touch screens and other system peripherals up to 180msec. It also provides short circuit protection, output overvoltage protection and reverse input protection.
The R24P22005D/P is designed to work in applications such as telecommunications, industrial control systems, medical equipment, power control and automotive electronics. It is suitable for distributed multi-voltage power architectures, decreasing design complexity in portable applications and allowing for voltage templates that can be easily adjusted as the application changes.
The R24P22005D/P DC/DC converter works on the principle of voltage control and regulation. The primary and the secondary regulatory devices interact to regulate the output to the commanded value. When the input voltage is present, the output voltage of the converter can be accurately regulated by the internal circuit and its output is proportional to the input voltage. When the input voltage drops, the output will remain the same until it reaches a certain predefined point, at which point the converter will automatically shut down to prevent any damage.
The output of the R24P22005D/P DC/DC is generated by connecting an inductor, diode and a capacitor in series with the input voltage supplied. When this sequence is observed at the input/output side, it is referred to as a Boosting ‘Forward’ topology, this topology is used to increase voltage from the input to the output. The inductor, tries to store energy, and the diode prevents the inductor from releasing energy back to the input. The capacitor, helps in the smooth transfer of energy, as any movement of energy will result in a voltage shift.
