LED Indication - Discrete
LEDs, or light emitting diodes, are widely used in applications for the purpose of providing a visual indication for the user. LEDs are commonly used in conjunction with discrete components to indicate the status of a system, a process or event. A particularly popular form of LED indication is the R7BC-R/Y (Red/Yellow) application field. This article will explore the R7BC-R/Y LEDs and their working principle.R7BC-R/Y LEDs are specially designed LEDs for applications where the user requires a visual indication of two separate states of a process or system. R7BC-R/Y LEDs combine two LEDs in a single package. One LED is red which indicates one state, while the other is yellow which indicates the other state. The single package of two LEDs reduces the cost of the system in addition to saving space. The operation of an R7BC-R/Y LED is similar to a single diode LED. If a red LED is present, it emits a red light when current is flowing through it and a yellow LED emits a yellow light when current is flowing through it. In the case of the R7BC-R/Y LED, when the controlling circuit supplies current to the LED, both LEDs start to emit light simultaneously. This indicates to the user two different states of a process or system. For instance, if the LED is used to indicate the status of a power supply, the red LED could indicate that the power supply is off and the yellow one could indicate that the power supply is on.R7BC-R/Y LEDs can also be used to indicate a range of different statuses, rather than just two. This can be achieved by applying varying amounts of current to the LEDs. This would cause the intensity of one or both of the LEDs to vary proportionally to the amount of current which is applied to them. This is achieved by using diffused LEDs which spread the light emitted from the LED in all directions.
