The RC1584T is a wide input voltage range, ultra-low quiescent current high frequency step-down switching regulator ideal for post-regulation of DC/DC converters and applications powered by battery. It features on-board power FET to reduce solution size, space and cost. The device can work as an adjustable output voltage regulator or as an adjustable current source. The RC1584T converter can be used in many portable battery-powered applications like mobile phones, PDAs and other handheld devices, still cameras, camcorders, portable DVD players, hearing aids and medical equipment.

The RC1584T high-efficiency, step-down switching regulator operates over an input voltage range of 2.5V to 15V. It is capable of delivering up to 750mA load current with up to 94% efficiency. The regulator is available with a wide range of adjustable output voltages from 0.6V to 5V. It utilizes the latest high-frequency CMOS process to reduce solution size and parts count. The device switches at a frequency of 1.2MHz, allowing the use of tiny external components.

The RC1584T includes many built-in features, like a low quiescent current of 10uA in shutdown mode, current limiting, short circuit protection and thermal shutdown. It includes an enable pin to put the regulator into shutdown mode, reducing the quiescent current consumption to 10uA. The enable pin is compatible with the ultra-low leakage devices such as Dallas Semiconductor DS1633.

The RC1584T internal synchronous power MOSFET reduces the number of external components needed and its synchronous rectification further improves the efficiency by eliminating the series dropout associated with traditional diode rectification. This allows for a compact solution with a ±2% output voltage accuracy over line and load variations. The on-board power MOSFET is capable of supplying up to 750mA of load current.
