The REG71050DRVT is an advanced power management integrated circuit (PMIC) specifically designed for low noise and high efficient DC/DC voltage conversion. It belongs to a family of DC/DC switching regulators which are used to provide well regulated output voltage from an input voltage source that can vary widely.The regulator requires no external components and provides power management to distributed power systems. It provides a highly optimized integrated solution for low noise, high efficiency applications. With a wide operating range, it can regulate an output current of up to 4A. The REG71050DRVT is a monolithic step-up voltage regulator with integrated control, power switches and MOSFET drivers. It offers integrated over current protection, thermal shutdown, active voltage positioning and a fast response external clock sync. The driver capability and high efficiency of the regulator make it an ideal choice for many high current applications such as servers, DSP, FPGA and other processing systems.The operating principle of the regulator is based on the buck-boost topology. In this topology, the voltage regulation is provided by the control circuit which monitors the regulated output voltage and regulates the duty cycle of the power switch accordingly. The duty cycle is calculated based on the output load current, input voltage and output voltage.The REG71050DRVT is capable of providing an output voltage up to 30V with an adjustable output current limit of from 200mA to 4A. The power dissipation of the regulator is low due to the efficiency of the regulator which is enhanced by a low component count.The REG71050DRVT integrates an adaptive parasitic capacitance compensation network with a slew rate control circuit. This allows for improved transient response and higher efficiency under light to medium load conditions. The regulator also integrates a burst mode current limiting feature which provides improved efficiency under light load conditions.The REG71050DRVT is available in several package types including 8-lead SOIC, 7-lead TSSOP and 4-lead SOT. The thermal shutdown and over-current protection characteristics of the regulator ensure reliability and safe operation. The regulator is supported by a wide range of development tools and evaluation modules which makes it easy to develop user specific applications.The REG71050DRVT is suitable for applications including industrial and automotive power systems, DSP systems, embedded systems, servers and distributed power systems. It is an ideal solution for providing low noise and high efficiency voltage conversion in restricted space applications.
