MKRF01731 is a type of RF transceiver module, which combines a 2.4GHz transceiver with an MCU core. The module is designed to combine the logic and radio control functions of any wireless protocol. The module is mainly used for mass production because of its small size and low power consumption, so it is also the most popular transceiver module in the field of embedded applications.The main components of MKRF01731 includes the RF receive and transmit unit, the main processor, the power and control unit, the memory, the peripherals and so on. The RF receive and transmit unit is composed of a 2.4GHz, 4-channel direct-sequence spread-spectrum wireless (IEEE802.15.4) transceiver. The transceiver has an effective receiving range up to 500 meters, and the data rate is up to 2Mbps. The main processor is STM32F030CCT6, which is a Cortex-M0 core (ARM 32 bit Microcontroller). The power and control unit is provided by the MCU, including the power supply and the control signal, it can support both single 3.3V and double 1.8V power supply. The memory includes 64KB Flash and 8KB SRAM. This module also includes various other peripherals, such as SPI, UART, I2C, PWM, etc.MKRF01731 adopts a unique working mode, the synchronous O-QPSK mode. This mode needs to manipulate the carrier phase and frequency to obtain phase offset, so that the receiving device obtains the information needed for decoding. This operation is mainly composed of two parts, phase lock loop (PLL) and filtering.The PLL technology used in the module is based on a method called multiplier incorporating offset cancellation (M-MAC). This technology combines the characteristics of the conventional oscillator and phase discriminator. It is to connect a variable frequency oscillator (VFO), an offset cancellation frequency source (OCF), and a parallel multiplier/divider (M/D), and use the 3 signals to lock the PLL. The frequency offset of OCF is used to adjust the phase of the VFO, while the output of the multiplier/divider is used to adjust the frequency of the VFO. In this way, the phase and frequency can be automatically locked.The filter is mainly used to reduce the noise of the received signal, improve the signal quality and reduce the power consumption. The MKRF01731 module uses a low pass filter to achieve low noise filtering, whose bandwidth is usually between 20KHz and 60KHz. The filter attenuates the high frequency and noise components of the received signal, leaving only the low-level portions of the signal.In addition, the MKRF01731 module includes an adaptive frequency hopping mechanism to prevent interference from other sources. It can quickly adapt its working frequency in response to the interference, and there is no need to manually preset the frequency of the system, which can effectively reduce the interference caused by other radio sources.In summary, MKRF01731 works on a 2.4GHz transceiver with high sensitivity, a M-MAC low power and high speed PLL component for phase and frequency synchronization, and an adaptive frequency hopping mechanism combined with a low pass filter for noise reduction.
