DC-DC converters are widely used in many applications, including telecommunications, power supplies, instrumentation, and renewable energy. Among them, RFMM-0505S is a new DC-DC converter with advantages of wide input voltage range and high efficiency. It mainly works by converting a DC voltage from a larger source to on that is a smaller, lower voltage. The working principle can be divided into three parts: input conversion, output conversion, and protection circuit.The input conversion is the first step of a DC- DC converter, with the purpose of transforming the input DC voltage from a higher value to one that is easy for further processing. It is accomplished by either a combination of resistors which are used to drop voltage or an inductive transformer. In the RFMM-0505S, the transformer works by inducing a current in the secondary winding that is proportional to the voltage in the primary winding. As a result, the output voltage obtained is lower than the input voltage, which is ideal for further steps.The second step is the output conversion, which is used to adjust the output voltage to the desired level. This is achieved by either using pulse-width modulation (PWM) or pulse frequency modulation (PFM) technology. In PWM, the frequency of the voltage pulses is adjusted to meet the desired output voltage. In PFM, the duration of the voltage pulses is adjusted to reach the desired output voltage. The RFMM-0505S converter uses P FM technology with efficient soft-switching technique for better performance.Finally, the protection circuit is used to protect the circuit from overcurrent, overtemperature, and overvoltage. In the RFMM-0505S, there is a fuse and a varistor that can cut off the circuit when voltage or temperature is too high, preventing any potential damage.
