RJS series fuses provide time-delay protection against moderate overload currents and short circuits in AC and DC applications. They are available in both single and dual-element fuse designs.
The RJS series is a widely used electrical protection component designed for use in various applications, from motor control circuits to AC/DC power distri-bution systems. It is suitable for many industrial and commercial applications, including motor circuits, air conditioning systems, and lighting systems.
The RJS series is a time-delay, single-pole thermal-magnetic fuse. It is designed to open the circuit in the event of a short circuit or an overload current. The time-delay feature is beneficial for motor starting applications, where momentary inrush currents may exceed the fuse rating. The fuse has a current-duration curve that is rated close to its breaking capacity.
The RJS series utilizes a unique dual-element construction. The dual-element design has a thermal component and a magnetic component. The thermal element is designed to provide protection against prolonged overload currents, while the magnetic element is designed to provide instantaneous protection against high-amplitude short-circuit currents.
The working principle of the RJS series is simple. When an overload current is applied to the fuse, the heat generated by the current causes the bimetallic strip in the fuse to expand, which in turn reduces the current to a level that is less than the rated current of the fuse. As the temperature of the bimetallic strip increases, the strip expands even further, reducing the current further still. When the current drops below the rated current of the fuse, the fuse is reset and the circuit is restored.
In the event of a short circuit, the current flows through the magnetic component of the fuse, activating a solenoid in the element. This increases the internal resistance of the fuse, causing the current to drop to a safe level.
The RJS series is an extremely reliable and cost-effective method of providing protection in AC and DC applications. It is available in a variety of amperage ratings and voltage ratings to suit any application. It is also available in a range of material types to withstand high temperatures, surges, and other environmental conditions. The RJS fuse is also UL and CSA certified for safety and reliability.
