The RK 39 is a type of single rectifier diode which is used in several different applications. The purpose of this diode is to allow electrical current to pass in one direction, while blocking the current from passing in the opposite direction. This type of diode is used in applications such as switching regulators, power supplies, rectifiers, and noise suppression.
The construction of the RK 39 diode is based on a silicon or germanium semiconductor material. This material is then submerged in a suitably doped insulator to create the semiconductor junction. When this junction is subjected to a potential gradient, it allows electrical current to flow in one direction and blocks it in the opposite direction. This ability to allow current to pass in one direction only, makes it an ideal choice for applications such as rectification, voltage stabilization, noise suppression, switching regulation and other similar tasks.
When an AC source is connected to the diode, the current is initially blocked through the diode until the "forward voltage" of the diode is reached. This is the voltage at which the diode permits current to pass through it in the forward direction. When the positive polarity of the AC source reaches the diode\'s forward voltage, current passes through the diode and is then limited to the diode\'s maximum "forward current".
At the same time, when the negative polarity of the AC source is reached, the current is blocked by the diode as the forward voltage is not reached in the reverse direction. This ensures that current is only passing through the diode in the forward direction, which allows for a stable current in the device the diode is connected to. The forward voltage for the RK 39 is typically around 0.7 volts.
The RK 39 diode also has a maximum forward current rating of 1 Amp, meaning that it can handle up to 1 Amp of forward current before it degrades. It has a forward surge current rating of 40 Amps, and a peak reverse voltage rating of 300 volts, meaning reverse voltages up to 300 volts will not cause permanent damage to the diode.
The RK 39 device is an efficient, small form factor, and cost effective solution for rectification, voltage stabilization, noise suppression, and switching regulation tasks. Its ability to block current in one direction while passing it in the other makes it ideal for these sorts of applications. It is suitable for use in commercial and industrial applications, and is readily available from many components suppliers.
